What you’ll do

Performs engineering work in product engineering supporting sustenance, upgrade and revitalization of existing product families. Work includes the design, conceptualization, layout (through use of CAD tools or manual techniques), tooling, prototype development, testing and evaluation of product packaging, mechanical and/or electromechanical devices or systems. Performs and/or approves design modifications recommended by lower levels of engineering staff. Provides training and/or direction to lower levels of engineering staff and technicians. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Reviews design and documentation to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards. Conducts feasibility studies, determines manpower and cost estimates, and develops engineering criteria.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and analyzes mechanical parts and systems, equipment and packaging.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
  • Directs lower levels of engineering staff and support personnel in the preparation of designs, detailed design documentation, design testing and prototype fabrication.
  • Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives.
  • Reviews design and documentation to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards. Develops and documents design requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


The Basics

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience
8 years of applicable experience

The Extras
  • Experience leading an engineering team.
  • Experience with Solid Modeling Design tools, ProEngineer Creo preferred
  • Experience with PLM systems, Windchill preferred
  • Experience with electromechanical packaging including PCBA and EMI
  • Experience with injection molding, casting, sheet metal, cable design and fabrication processes
  • Experience with FEA or other analysis tools for stress and thermal
  • Experience with tolerance analysis
  • Experience with Design for Reliability, Manufacturing and Service
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma or other statistics based development methodologies Strong technical skills in the areas of robust design (shock and vibration)
