Job Description

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the long term strategic direction of product lines.  Identifies new opportunities, evaluates opportunities based on potential success factors, and works with customers, engineers and 3rd parties to take those products from ideation to market launch.  Develops specific marketing plans and activities for specific product(s) or product line(s) to establish, enhance or distinguish product placement within the competitive arena. Develops business plans and product positioning in the marketplace. Oversees market research, monitors competitive activity and identifies customer needs. Establishes pricing strategies. Works with engineering, manufacturing and sales to develop new products or enhance existing product(s) or product line(s)

  • Responsible for creating and driving the marketing strategy including deep knowledge of the current product offering, call points, market trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Build a network of sales reps/regional managers/and customers that can be leveraged for project feedback.
  • Conduct primary market research including direct customer visits, blinded phone interviews, online surveys, focus groups, etc.
  • Prepare market estimates, sales forecasts and financial models for early stage opportunities in order to determine prioritization and potential impact of projects.
  • Oversee the coordination of engaging customer feedback sessions with the goal of fully understanding their needs/desires/fears/motives which may include observing operating room procedures.
  • Oversees the execution of labs for product feedback sessions which will include securing lab space, scheduling surgeons, and procuring tools and specimen.
  • Identify new opportunities in the market by monitoring medical device journals/websites and  participating in trade shows.
  • Determines market entry strategy for product ideas which may include acquisition, licensing, supply agreements, product development.
  • Responsible for the analysis and decision making for the annual strategic planning process.
  • Work with engineers to deliver technical solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Research and understand market potential, market drivers, and market trends.
  • Analyze competitive landscape and proposes product/technology positioning.
  • May manage a team of marketing professional
  • This individual will be responsible for leading/collaborating with individuals among cross-functional groups, across multiple divisions within Stryker (Neurosurgical/AGT, Spine, Mako)
  • This individual will be responsible for leading/overseeing surgeon focus groups, along with cadaver labs
  • This individual will be responsible for leading the "Go-To-Market" strategy for our Robotic Assisted Surgery Portfolio
  • This individual will be responsible for gathering critical surgeon/market feedback and insight, in partnership with their R&D counterparts, to set clear scope for projects within the portfolio
  • This individual, in partnership with their research team, will be responsible for clearly setting the Vision/Direction for their portfolio
  • This individual should be able to clearly showcase the ability to work within cross-functional Teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3-5+ years relevant experience required.
  • Intermediate understanding of marketing strategy, product launch experience, marketing insights and experience interacting with HCPs preferred.
  • Heavy work: may exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a heave amount of force frequently to move objects. 
  • Coordination of eye, hand and foot movement with an ability to grasp by hand and meet cognitive demands to include visual and auditory discrimination / memory, reading ability and memory retention ability.
  • Exercise discretion and independence when applying professional expertise.
  • Must be able to manage time, projects, stress and conflict.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills including written and oral communication.
  • Must be able to bring tasks through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize work and keep detailed and confidential records.
  • Must be able to communicate / present to large groups of people.
