Responsibilities

The Master Production Scheduler establishes and maintains the site Master Production Schedule and inventory levels of finished goods. The established Master Schedule must be feasible and ensure that adequate capacity exists (buckets and actual true capacity) to meet requirements for specific products and options in time periods relevant to the customer. Ongoing communication with materials, engineering, manufacturing leadership, sales and marketing organization, Integrated Business Planning and senior leadership is expected to facilitate balancing supply with demand, meeting customer service requirements and fully utilizing all manufacturing resources.


Specific responsibilities of the Master Production Scheduler include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain a valid two month rolling Master Schedule in the manufacturing or supply site
  • Participate in the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process and operations planning meetings as required and interface with the IBP Manager/Analyst to develop and maintain Master Production Schedule and inventory of finished goods, end-item or option forecasts, balance demand with supply, and communicate potential customer service issues
  • Participate in Supply Plan development and in establishing planning time fences for aggregate Supply Plans and for detail Master Schedules
  • Create the site Master Schedule by translating the Supply Plan into a schedule for producing or acquiring discrete parts, materials and services and ensures Master Schedules are produced and communicated on time. Manage Master Schedule Compliance at or above 95% for assigned finished goods, end items or options
  • Maintain and provide valid lead time data to sales and marketing organization to guard against over-committing company resources and/or parts and materials
  • Identify and resolve conflicts with supply and demand, and availability of capacity in conjunction with Operations Leadership, IBP, and the Detailed Production Scheduler
  • Coordinate and direct recurring scheduling meetings to review key metrics (such as Supply Planning Accuracy), resolve issues and ensure follow up on actions. This could include re-prioritization and expedites as required
  • Utilize hypothetical scenarios to evaluate proposed Master Schedule changes to determine the impact on parts, materials, efficiency and capacity

Qualifications and Work Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.  Degree in business, engineering or supply chain management field is preferred.  A minimum of 5 years production/planning/scheduling work experience in a supply chain related field is also required for this position.  APICS or other related Certification is preferred.


Ideal candidates will also possess the following skills/experiences:

  • Strong ERP systems and computer software experience (e.g. JDE, AS400, Excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing feasible and balanced supply plans, in accordance with demand, to support targets consistent with customer service levels for short, medium and long term capacity planning
  • Ability to proactively diagnoses and addresses potential issues in supply shortage or customer service interruption (e.g. resource requirements planning constraints)
  • Possess a strong understanding and awareness of the principles of extended Supply Chain management and fundamentals of Supply Chain design and strategy
  • Experience proactively seeking to leverage existing IT capabilities to improve current and future Supply Chain performance (e.g., systems, reports or metrics)
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and collaboration between plant and key stakeholders 
  • Possess a 'customer - first' mindset to understand customer needs and exceed customer expectations
  • Experience with the strategic and operational management of inventory, meeting operational and customer service targets while minimizing cost of working capital and potential obsolescence and redundancy
  • Possess a broad understanding of the impact of Supply Chain on working capital and company profitability, and the relationship between operational targets and financial budgeting
  • Ability to apply appropriate process improvement tools, techniques and Supply Chain metrics to measure, analyze, diagnose and improve future performance
  • Possess a continuous improvement mindset and experience participating in preventative maintenance and safety programs with a focus on cost reduction
  • Must have a strong attention to detail efficient, accurate, timely and thorough, with focus and attention to detail.
