Job Description

Work with engineers and marketing managers to support new product development through concept prototyping, performance and safety testing, data analysis and reporting, and production for field trials
  • Under minimal guidance of supervisor (NPD Engineer/Scientist or Senior/Master Technician), will construct new concept prototypes, modify existing products, build new package configurations, and design test fixtures.
  • Ability to safely and effectively use hand tools, common power tools (drill press, band saw, grinder, etc.), and advanced equipment (mill), to convert wood, metal, plastics, etc.
  • Collaborates with supervisor to develop test methods and perform existing methods to assess the performance and safety of new and existing products; testing methods include, but not limited to, pressure mapping, friction, moisture vapor transmission rate, failure, impact, acceleration, load, current, voltage, etc.
  • Performs basic chemistry lab functions such as ingredients measuring, mixing, emulsions, and pH measurements.
  • Able to populate Excel spreadsheets, produce charts, run statistical calculations, and complete first through final draft of regulatory- approved protocols and reports.
  • Accountable for all record keeping as appropriate and in accordance with company specifications. Utilizes proper software and technological tools to maintain proper records.
  • Able to lead and participate in pilot/production runs (assembly, pack out, inspections, testing, and reporting) under direction of supervisor.
  • Help maintain laboratory and oversee/perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment; capable of more complex hands-on repairs and able to research/schedule larger-scale repairs.
  • Capable of building circuits utilizing breadboards, PLCs, circuit boards, relays, PWM, etc. Knowledgeable of the safety risks associated with the use of electrical equipment.
  • Basic to intermediate materials knowledge including various types of wood, metal, textiles, adhesives, fasteners, foams, gels, films, composites, etc.
  • Capable of more complex hand/machine sewing tasks for prototyping and production. Understands sewing machine setup, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understands and applies lab performance metrics. Proactively contributes ideas to help with projects and to improve the laboratory layout, processes, and productivity.
