Job Description

The Sr. Business Architect is responsible for building strong collaborative relationships within our ERP Accelerate program, Stryker’s largest transformational program. The Sr. Business Architect will work closely with Enterprise Business Partners and Information Services (IS) teams to ensure consistency in the customer relationship for our ERP transformation program.

The Sr. Business Architect will be responsible for providing knowledge and expertise to department heads, process owners and IS leads in identifying opportunities for technology solutions and supporting prioritization. At Stryker, our Sr. Business Architects possess an understanding of complex business needs and processes and acts as a liaison between the business and technical teams. They establish and improve business analysis processes and mentor business architects and business analysts. They are responsible for understanding and improving business processes, eliciting and documenting requirements, and coordinating communication among various business groups and IS technical teams for critical and complex projects. Individuals in this position have a broad understanding of business processes, subject matter expertise and experience working with multiple technologies, and have demonstrated the ability to work with users at all levels in the business.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationship with the [division teams] and act as a liaison between the ERP Transformation Program and IS business partners, IS teams and the Enterprise business partners.   
  • Build a strong understanding of the commercial processes (including sales, marketing, and other associated functions) and apply this understanding to IS strategies and implementations.
  • Improve the business analysis function through best practices, process management, mentoring, and education.
  • Manage relationships with high level business stakeholders.
  • Partner with business and technical teams to drive consensus on the best solution to business problems and the delivery of new solutions and enhancements.
  • Work with a diverse business community to develop/create and document as-is and to-be business processes.
  • Collaborate with business units beyond the IS organization to establish sound business practices for a global team.
  • Execute and partner with leaders to assist in developing the overall strategy of the ERP Transformation Program and IS partnership.
  • Develop and document clear and testable requirements which describe a system to be implemented.
  • Ensure clear communication between business stakeholders and IS technical teams.
  • Lead collaborative effort for business case development.

Education & Special Trainings:

  • Minimum 13 years of professional experience is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry and basic knowledge of adjacent areas in terms of processes, organization, products and IS requirements is required.
  • Experience working with business leaders is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix organization structure with significant emphasis on collaboration and persuasion, rather than relying entirely on command and control.
  • Experience with process mapping is required.
  • Experience documenting complex processes and presenting them in a clear and understandable format is required.
  • Experience understanding, evaluating, and recommending changes to business processes are required.
  • Experience working in an agency-regulated environment is required.
  • Expertise of Agile Development methodologies is required.
  • Experience with formal Project methodologies is preferred.
  • Experience developing strategic business process methodologies to drive collaboration and business results.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cross-divisional business needs and working strategically with multiple facets of a global business.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Demonstrated strong communication and influencing skills – oral, written, listening, executive presentations.   
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with business representatives at all levels to identify needs, define and document requirements, and drive solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide the business towards optimal solutions.       
  • Experience in identifying opportunities for process optimization, process redesign, or development of new process/policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain clear communication channels with IS and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert complex business functions into technical specifications.
