Job Description

The Intellectual Property Specialist will be a key member of Stryker's IP team and will assist in the continued development and implementation of intellectual property protection strategy, including patents, copyrights and trademarks.  This individual will support the Instruments Division's Intellectual Property department in managing its data and documentation within its docket and data/document management systems, and will provide technical administrative support to the IP professionals managing patent and trademark portfolios. This individual will:

  • Interface with personnel at outside firms as well as internal IP staff on a broad range of IP matters.
  • Develop, implement and administer databases for managing data and documents.
  • Manage third party patent annuity services for payment of annual fees.
  • Conduct worldwide patent and trademark searches.
  • Manage patent marking practices and the Stryker website to ensure part numbers and patent numbers are put into the correct form for uploading.
  • Support the trademark renewal process by gathering specimens of use for the trademark office requirements.
  • Maintain issued patents and other legal documents as well as the IP data, metrics and reporting.

Education and Special Trainings:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent IP experience.
  • 3 - 5 years' experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • IP experience preferred or other comparable experience.
  • Proficiency in Foundation IP, CPI, PATTSY or other IP docketing systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working with CPA or other IP renewal services.
  • Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented to manage numerous projects under deadline pressures.
  • Ability to take initiative to address problems and implement process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve issues of a broad scope using independent judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize work and keep accurate, detailed and confidential records.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Share Point).
