Job Description

  • Responsible for providing leadership and accountability in the effective implementation of the Compliance Program in accordance with Corporate Policy #8: Compliance Program for MedSurg businesses.
  • Responsible for providing leadership, oversight and accountability in the development and implementation of broad-scale compliance programs plans, tasks and initiatives to ensure pushdown through the organization.
  • Ensures that all essential elements of a complete Compliance Program are operating well to address and prevent risks, including training & education, auditing & monitoring, and forensics & investigations with appropriate root cause analysis.
  • Identifies and implements improvements to the Compliance Program while working with others across the company to ensure effectiveness, practicality and applicability.
  • Develops strong relationships throughout areas of responsibility, including all functional areas, departments and divisions to foster an advisory and collaborative approach to proactive compliance. Builds relationships with colleagues cross-divisionally, working towards a single team and Department identity.
  • Promotes collective collaboration, strategic thinking and operational plan execution among other senior compliance members to maximize value to the business, including by driving the ongoing evolution and operation of the global compliance function and related programs.
  • Supports divisional and group efforts in the initial due diligence and subsequent integration planning required by business development activities. 
  • Maintains high level of knowledge of current and emerging laws and regulations, and periodically reviews and updates standards relating to compliance.  These include but are not limited to Stryker Corporate Policies and Procedures, industry trends and guidance on country, state or local laws.
  • Provides input and oversees training and education activities in coordination with the Corporate Compliance Training team.
  • Works with Department Centers of Expertise to avoid duplication of efforts and to encourage uniform use of global tools.
  • Participates in specific Departmental, Group or Global initiatives, committees and tasks forces, as applicable. Collaborates with others to build scalable and sustainable global, business and customer-oriented solutions that leverage technology and when implemented ensure one consistent process, remove inefficiencies, and add value.
  • Oversees the completion of all annual compliance program effectiveness (e.g., SAFe) self-assessments and related audits, and compliance monitoring and audits for the MedSurg divisions and business units using prescribed assessment tools, to identify issues, trends and share best practices.
  • Responsible for the ongoing monitoring of Group issues and allegations to ensure timely and appropriate investigations resulting in consistent application of corrective or disciplinary action.
  • Makes recommendations to Compliance and Legal Leadership and influences group/departmental strategy with regard to the development or revisions of existing policies, procedures or systems to attain high levels of performance and build competitive advantage.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and on-going performance management of direct employees (Divisional Compliance Officers and other compliance personnel) and actively supports the development of talent, consistent with the talent strategy of the Department and the company.
  • Works with group, divisional, site, and functional leadership to ensure the achievement of strategic business initiatives.
  • Represents MedSurg Group on various global committees and organizations, for example: Investigations Oversight Committee, Corporate Compliance Committee, Organizational project teams, And may represent Stryker with external organizations e.g., AdvaMed DDCG
