What you will do-

The Stryker Redmond site Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer will be responsible for driving and executing site specific EHS programs in accordance with the corporate Stryker EHS policies and programs and ensuring compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations. This position will be responsible for promoting a positive working environment dedicated to identifying and eliminating hazards, managing risks, and improving the overall quality of life for our employees.


Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Under direction, implement and maintain EHS programs to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, representing the company in contact with regulatory agencies.
  • Support cross-functional safety and health committee, partnering with and educating business functional groups to ensure team member safety and sustainable environmental management are integrated into the company culture.
  • Maintain the site loss prevention program including return to work, employee rights and responsibilities and support the worker comp program.
  • Conduct injury and incident investigations, discovering root cause and developing mitigation strategies with continuous improvement of safety, health and environmental programs.
  • Conduct audits and provide data analysis and trend reporting, using the data to develop and measure action plans for continuous improvement of EHS activities.
  • Maintain and report on EHS metrics to local management and corporate EHS function.
  • Maintain company EHS training program covering topics such as accident prevention, blood borne pathogen safety, radiation safety, confined spaces, fall protection, hazardous waste handling, ergonomics, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment (PPE), safety job analysis, hot work permits, lock out/tag out, lab safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Maintain and submit EHS records, reports, permits, and licenses.
  • Assist with evaluation of  hazardous materials prior to entry into the facility to ensure compliance with EHS requirements and facility procedures.
  • May respond to emergency situations during or after work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety/environmental concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need-

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health, Industrial Safety or related technical field with 2+ years of related experience -or- equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of regulations and best practices in the following areas: hazardous materials, waste manifesting, industrial safety, ergonomics, workplace injuries and product environmental compliance
  • Familiarity with coordinating and executing plans to maintain an ISO-certified quality system.
  • Experienced classroom and online training development and coaching skills.
  • Proficient in programs covering areas such as regulatory compliance, risk management, internal auditing and training for employees. 
  • AED/CPR and First Aid certified
  • Experienced managing EH&S regulatory compliance,  ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and OSAS 18001 Safety Management System.
  • Experience with workers injury response and reporting requirements
  • Proven written and verbal communications skills; ability to write clear and concise reports and interact with team members of various levels of the organization and cultures globally
  • Goal oriented and self-directed
  • Knowledge of  L&I, WISHA, OSHA, Dept of Ecology, and EPA.
  • Organized, possessing strong computer hardware and software skills; proficient in MS Office suite
  • Prior experience providing EHS support and guidance to multiple locations and/or field locations, including outside of the USA
  • Prior experience with or knowledge of FDA and medical device manufacturing and quality systems requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Limited exposure to environmental, health and safety hazards
  • Travel potential 1-2 times per year,
  • On call status as needed
  • Periodic physical exertion; may involve lifting up to 35 pounds on an infrequent basis
