Job Summary

Under supervision, develops, directs, and executes plans for moderately complex projects that may represent segments of a larger, more complex project.

Under limited supervision/guidance, works on assignments that can be complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving drawing/drafting problems and making recommendations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines.
  • Complete routines assignments with minimal guidance and works independently on new assignments with general instructions.  Generates detailed drawings for devices and fabricated parts from concepts, layouts and sketches.
  • Develops and completes detailed 2D & 3D packages for devices, fabricated parts, tools, equipment, and fixture layouts from conceptual designs, notes, and sketches.
  • Prepares Bill of Materials (BOM) from the assembly packages.
  • Independently provides low level design input, i.e. dimensioning, mechanics, and schematics (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic).
  • Supports engineering project teams by preparing and submitting equipment documentation packages consisting of assembly drawings (top level, first level, second level), per corporate Standard Operating Procedures for equipment drawings and documentation.
  • Designs, procures, and fabricates tooling and fixtures.
  • Applies technical knowledge to innovate, design, and develop processes, procedures, tooling and/or automation.
  • Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
  • Responsible for engineering documentation.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians.
  • Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing to ensure project success.
  • Demonstrates PDP/TPD system knowledge through delivery of high quality deliverables. 
  • Build quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.

Design Development Responsibilities

  • Interfaces with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Invents/ creates concepts and designs for new products/processes.
  • Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs.  Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes or equipment.
  • Contributes ideas to or generates Intellectual Property submissions.
  • Selects techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.

Model Development Responsibilities

  • 3D data manipulation for printing and casting anatomical models
  • Create patient specific pathology models from CT and MRI scans
  • Maintains the model electronic database
  • Development of new models and/or materials or improvement of existing models
  • Interfaces with material or model vendors and other outside specialists
  • Interfaces with Preclinical, R&D and Marketing to understand the complexities of the neurovascularture and evolving disease/treatment state
  • Skilled at design, fabrication, and assembly of models and fixtures, with a significant hands-on component.


B.S. degree in engineering or applicable technical field (mechanical or biomedical preferred)

Qualifications/Work Experience Required

  • Prior experience in medical device industry preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with good leadership abilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong technical capabilities and project management capability to develop aspects of assigned projects on time and within budget.
  • Should possess excellent computer skills (CAD software, operating systems, network filing system); Solid Works skills preferred. Knowledge of drafting standards (e.g. ANSI Y14.5).
  • Knowledgeable with hierarchical parts structures & inventory control systems (BOM’s, Items Masters, etc.).
  • Viewed as entry level team resource.
