Job Description

Responsible for the organization, planning, and implementation of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) compliance with regard to the impact on the Kalamazoo Campus Operations, and possibly other Stryker locations, as outlined by management in MARS and bonus objectives.  


Organization point of contact and ultimately responsible for EH&S compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws.


Develops and manages strategy, scope, schedule, costs, resources, and risks.


Interfaces with other senior management on planning and implementation phases of projects.


Performs activities according to organization’s developing EH&S systems and procedures.


Recommends and manages changes in EH&S Policies, Procedures, and Practices as appropriate.


Develops and maintains EH&S Operating Procedures to satisfy regulatory compliance.


With significant degree of independence, plans, conducts and supervises EH&S Activities.


Reviews EH&S progress, evaluates and reports results.


Operates with substantial latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.


Works under general instruction of upper manager, but with significant degree of independence to determine how EH&S objectives will be met including priorities.


Works effectively with applicable divisions across the campus, and the organization, including, but not limited to, Medical, Instruments, Shared Services, Corporate, and all related divisions.


Works as an EH&S liaison between Kalamazoo Campus Operation and remote company locations.


Responsible for EH&S compliance training development, scheduling and delivery to affected employees.


Keeps up to date on OSHA, EPA and other governmental regulations by participating in seminars and training.


Drives OSHA, EPA, and other governmental compliance campus wide.


Continuously drives company environmental and safety culture philosophy.


Participates in preplanning activities by evaluating EH&S impacts and assigning resources to tasks.


Estimates annual EH&S expenditures and contributes projection information for annual budget.


Contributes EH&S information towards relevant Capital Expenditure Requests.


Collaborates with other corporate departments that have similar interest and responsibilities in EH&S (i.e. Corporate Social Responsibility and Risk Management Group).

  • Professional Degree (Bachelor’s) from an accredited university in Environmental, Health & Safety or related field.
  • Professional Certifications (Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)) desired.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience.

              -           Overall EH&S system management of industrial/ medical manufacturing facility               -           Significant management of EH&S Policies, Procedures, and Practices  

  • Significant (Refining) Industry knowledge.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, etc.).
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills applied across organization.
  • Eagerness to assist internal and external customers.
  • Possess attention to detail.
