Main purpose of role

You will be responsible for the manufacture of orthopedic implants and associated instrumentation and tooling, to the tolerances specified on either standard or patient specific component drawings using manual and CNC lathes and mills.  You will be asked to observe all safety procedures, use appropriate safety equipment and comply with all comply with all quality procedures and working instructions. 

Key tasks

The job holder will be responsible for undertaking the following tasks:

  • Manufacture of orthopedic implants and associated instrumentation and tooling.
  • Working within specified tolerances and engineering standards.
  • Using precision measuring equipment in the manufacturing environment.
  • Meeting production deadlines.
  • Work within safety guidelines and maintain a safe working environment.
  • To work well both as an individual, as well as a team member.
  • Liaising with design office team to advise and assist on production issues.
  • Maintain, adjust, repair and clean workshop equipment and machinery as required.
  • To undertake training and development as and where necessary.
  • Adherence to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Perform other duties detailed by the Production Manager, as and when necessary.

Qualifications, skills and desirable experience

  • Minimum experience of 2 years
  • A time served apprenticeship within the engineering industry is desirable. 
  • Very good working knowledge of milling machines and center lathes; both manual and CNC essential.
  • Qualified to a BTEC ONC in engineering would be ideal.
  • Engineering qualification desirable
  • As a team player you should be able to work closely with other colleagues and be able to contribute ideas and suggestions in a clear and concise manner.
  • High levels of self-motivation and the ability to achieve goals along with a willingness to learn are core values required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure
  • Experience of working within a regulated environment desirable
  • Maintain a high level of attention and accuracy
  • High attention to detail
  • Good Communication written and verbal
  • Organisation skills
  • Team player
  • Computer literate
