Job Description

The Compliance Officer, Canada -- to be based in Hamilton, Ontario -- will develop strong relationships throughout Canada to foster an advisory and collaborative approach to proactive compliance.  The position is responsible for the oversight, development and implementation of an effective compliance program in accordance with Corporate Policy #8 in Canada.  These responsibilities will encompass the application of laws and guidance to business activities and development/implementation of corporate and divisional policies and procedures.  May support the broader Compliance Group as a subject matter expert or inter-divisional project leader in transparency, training, communications, health care professional interactions, grants and donations, indirect sales channels, issues/investigations, high risk third party vendors, risk management, auditing and monitoring.  Makes decisions of moderate to high impact and exercises independent judgment. This position is viewed as a Canadian resource who influences business strategy.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the development and effective implementation of an annual compliance plan which includes communication, training, auditing and monitoring and risk management.
  • Providing direction to Canadian Compliance committee(s) in accordance with Corporate Policy #8: Compliance Program and other applicable Stryker policies.
  • Providing leadership, oversight and accountability in the development and implementation of broad-scale compliance program plans, tasks and initiatives. May participate as compliance representative in the initial due diligence and subsequent integration planning required by business development activities.
  • Maintaining a high level of knowledge of current and emerging laws and regulations, and periodically reviewing and updating standards relating to compliance, including Stryker Corporate Policies and Procedures, industry trends and guidance on country, state/provincial or local laws.
  • Responding to alleged violation of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards of conduct through the initiation of appropriate investigation procedures in partnership with Legal, Professional Affairs, Corporate, Human Resources, and other departments.
  • Making recommendations to Canadian leadership and influencing group/departmental strategy with regard to the development or revisions of existing policies, procedures or systems to attain high levels of performance and build competitive advantage.
  • Training and education of Stryker personnel located in Canada.
  • Completing Annual Compliance Audit using proscribed assessment tools.
  • Coordinating with Corporate transparency team on production of information roll up for Canada to be compliant with reporting to regulatory bodies.
  • Working closely with other Regional and Divisional Legal and Compliance teams to identify and mitigate compliance risk.
  • Participating as a member of overall Stryker Orthopaedics and Canada Compliance team.

Education and Special Trainings:

  • Undergraduate Degree required, Graduate Degree or professional accreditation preferred.  

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10-15 years professional experience.
