Preference is given to candidates in Kalamazoo, MI but also willing to consider candidates located in Cary, IL or Indianapolis, IN.


Responsibilities
The Associate Transportation Manager is responsible for local execution and leadership of the transportation plan, building relationships with carriers and resolving issues in a timely manner. The Associate Transportation Manager will also carry out special projects and assignments as needed, will be responsible for identifying and executing opportunities for continuous improvement and will have ownership of local transportation P&L.

Specific responsibilities of the Associate Transportation Manager include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage carrier relations activities of assigned carrier area to achieve efficient, reliable, cost effective transportation functions, including government relations impacting the business if applicable to assignment
  • Improve overall transportation cost and service, eliminating root causes of recurring issues
  • Manage, report and analyze key performance indicators related to carrier performance; conduct QBR’s with local providers
  • Escalation point of all transportation issues for the assigned divisions
  • Participates in and/or supports company initiatives in which transportation plays a key role; counsels with and advises associates on business issues related to carrier relations and transportation strategies
  • Communicate and present ideas, projects, and metrics to the appropriate people in the organization. Drive or partner with project managers to execute projects
  • Continuously develop expertise in all related quality and regulatory areas of the business (DOT, revenue recognition, FDA compliance, safety, ADVAMed, international trade regulations, etc.)
  • Actively participate in the ongoing development of a corporate culture that strives to achieve the highest ethical standards. This is accomplished by conducting all business affairs ethically and lawfully and by ensuring open, honest communication without fear of retaliation.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance or related field and a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience, preferably in purchased transportation/logistics, supply chain, procurement, or transportation. International experience strongly preferred.

Ideal candidates will also possess the following skills/experience:
  • Proven ability within logistics, purchasing, operations, customer service, and project management
  • Proficient with use of procurement technology and Transportation Management Systems
  • Strong industry knowledge across modes of transportation used
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access experience strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective carrier, customer and teammate relationships around the world
  • Proven ability to negotiate effective solutions
  • Strategic planning, problem solving and tactical implementation skills
  • Effective leadership, team building, mentoring, and oral/written communication skills. Ability to influence internal stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects to short deadlines
