Job Description

Basic Function

Provide scientific support to various areas of the business leveraging analytical testing methods and equipment.  Conduct investigations from a bioanalytical or analytical chemistry based perspective; including compendial, modified compendial and novel test methods.


  • Perform analytical test methods for product testing/evaluation
  • Support evaluation, procurement, and installation of new analytical instrumentation under the corporate validation guidelines
  • Maintain supply of standard reagents and solutions
  • Evaluate and test the physical, chemical and/or biological properties of a variety of synthetic and natural materials for current and future Stryker products
  • Support projects and project deliverables in collaboration with cross functional groups such as R&D, Service, Operations, Sales and Marketing
  • Understanding and application of methods to test for; chemical or biological material identification, residual analysis, corrosion, etc.
  • Familiarity with international standards, references and test methods related to USP, ASTM, AAMI, ISO, CRC, etc.
  • Support the development or revision of quality system documents and quality improvement initiatives associated with analytical laboratory testing
  • Networks with internal and external SME’s in own area of expertise
  • Provide swift and accurate results to internal and external customers
  • Knowledge of product offering, intended use and off label use
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to divisional product offering

Physical Requirements

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/ or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to review printed materials.
  • Must be able to communicate telephonically
  • Must be able to use common office equipment (e.g. calculator, PC, telephone, etc.)

Mental Requirements

  • Ability to interface effectively with health care professionals and medical device customers
  • Must be able to interpret medical terminology
  • Must be able to work independently but also capable of collaboration and participation in teams
  • Must be highly customer service oriented

Qualifications/Work Experience Preferred

  • Knowledge of FDA, GMP, ISO, AAMI, NIST, and other medical device regulatory requirements and standards
  • 0-3 years of laboratory experience, analytical testing preferred.
  • GC/MS, FTIR, XRF, PH, UV-VIS, conductivity, LOD
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate and lead through influence
  • Strong time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and delegate work as needed
  • Working knowledge of business applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • A minimum of 0-3 years of experience in medical device product development and or testing

Education/Special Training Required

  • BS in Chemistry, Biology or related discipline is required
