Job Description: As part of the core project team working in close partnership with portfolio and brand managers this person leverages deep domain expertise to design and support the execution of a research plan for both new product development and BD programs. This role is also tasked with continuous improvement of the Market Insights function by innovation in research methodology, process development, and mentorship to other MI team members in addition to cross functional customers.  This person assists in allocating team resources and supporting other research team members. This person must have strong competencies in both primary and secondary research as well as the ability to lead a cross functional group.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with portfolio managers to design and execute research strategies in support of new product development projects throughout the PMO process.
  • Secondary data sourcing and analysis including advanced modelling in excel, Microsoft BI, or Tableau
  • Primary research expertise to properly select and execute appropriate research tools such as conjoin analysis, observational research, focus group discussion, and in-depth interviews to develop high impact insights  
  • Continuously seek to drive cost out of the process through vendor selection and vendor management in addition to leveraging internal resources where possible
  • Provide domain expertise on market and customer research, serve as the in-house expert that mentors cross functional peers and other MI team members
  • Provide domain expertise to leadership in the selection of strategy consultants and design firms that serve the business on a contract basis, play an active role in facilitating these projects internally
  • Develop tools that enable self service and improved efficiency for internal customers, including a user friendly sharepoint site
  • Consistently attend research industry functions and training opportunities to bring improvements back to Stryker  
  • Develop customer and vendor relationships while working in the field to gain additional experience and insight specific to the Stryker portfolio
  • Supports in-field data capture and diligence with confidential business development opportunities
  • Develops and improves the Market Insights process that mirrors and supports the new product development process
  • Coordinates activities across the Market Insights team to effectively manage resources in support of business needs
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, market modelling, and revenue projections in order to assist the portfolio and brand managers in creation of well supported financial projections
  • Develop competitive analyses, and futurist predictions on both markets and competitors
  • Perform company/product specific research as well as ongoing surveillance to deliver critical insights, updates, and trend projections to support the strategy development of the business unit

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • MS/MBA with emphasis on Design, UX, Market Research, or Marketing strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of experience required in product/brand marketing, user experience, design research, market research, or data analysis preferred
  • Demonstrated strength in strategic thinking / market analysis /competitive analysis / consumer behavior
  • Fundamental understanding of how to conduct market research
  • Strong communication / presentation skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong financial acumen related to conducting ROI, NPV, TCO and other analyses
  • Must possess excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and e-mail applications
  • Must have ability to effectively lead a medium sized team (5-8) of direct or non-direct reports
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with technical Stryker employees and vendors
  • Must possess unwavering ethics & integrity in a competitive and demanding work environment
  • Must be detail oriented and possess conceptual/creative thinking skills
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and establish (and re-establish) priorities for self and team
