What you will do  

Media relations and social media management

  • Assist in securing and coordinating interviews in support of the company’s media strategy
  • Serve as a point of contact for incoming media requests; help assess opportunities, make recommendations and coordinate responses
  • Develop media materials, such as pitches, company announcements and briefing materials for company spokespeople
  • Serve as a point of contact for business partners on PR activities, align them with Corporate Communications guidelines and further establish collaborative relationships
  • Maintain master list of company-wide and priority divisional media contacts
  • Manage vendor in ongoing media monitoring, metrics tracking and reporting; monitor news/flag issues and opportunities, distribute daily coverage reports and take the lead in working with vendor on quarterly/annual results reports
  • Stay up to date with emerging media trends and vendor capabilities and leverage knowledge in recommendations
  • Support crisis communication activities, including management of holding statement database and issues tracker
  • Assist senior editorial manager on social media activities, including coordinating Social Media Work Group activities; managing Stryker’s account list and regularly reviewing accounts to stay current on trends and identify potential opportunities/issues; and helping coordinate finalization of a corporate social media policy and related training
  • Help manage PR agency partner, including deliverable timelines, coordination of regular meetings and budgets/billing

Company materials and events

  • Collaborate with senior editorial manager to maintain content for select pages on
  • Take the lead in maintaining current PR content on company intranet
  • Manage Annual Shareholders Meeting logistics and the development of the shareholders presentation
  • Support the development of the company’s Annual Review, including collaborating with business partners to secure approvals for content
  • Coordinate reviews and approvals for a variety of communications materials

Company guidelines and procedures

  • Serve as a business partner point of contact on external guidelines (e.g., media and external announcements, speaking opportunities); review internal requests and provide recommendations aligned to these guidelines
  • Assist in updating and distributing external guidelines and trainings annually

What you need


Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor's in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field preferred

Competencies and Experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience working in corporate communications or an agency setting
  • Execution-oriented, self-starter and self-navigator who can prioritize high-value projects versus tasks in a fast-paced environment and balance demands of multiple projects
  • Responsive, with a customer-centric/solutions-oriented approach
  • Ability to work strategically and tactically across all levels of the organization
  • Problem solver with creative approach to proactive identification and resolution of issues
  • Effective influencing skills and ability to build trust with internal clients and constructive relationships with external partners
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including the ability to tailor communications style to audience  
  • Excellent editing skills and strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with AP style (or willingness to learn and master)
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is very strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment is a plus
