Job Description

This newly-created Associate Intellectual Property Manager position will be based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, supporting the growth of the Instruments Division at Stryker in our recently opened state-of-the-art building at 1941 Stryker Way!  The Associate IP Manager will support the IP Management team through performing preliminary patentability assessments, working with counsel and engineers to draft patent applications, and developing office action responses.  The Associate IP Manager will collaborate with the R&D team through all phases of the new product development process. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to organize and prioritize work. Additional job responsibilities:

  • Review invention disclosures and conduct patentability searches. 
  • Participate in Invention Evaluation Boards for patenting or trade secret decisions.
  • Liaise with inventors and counsel to draft patent applications and office action responses.
  • Maintain market surveillance and participate in strategic discussions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience, preferably including experience in development or research in the medical device industry.
  • Exposure to Intellectual Property and the USPTO patent prosecution process.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
