Designers and CAD Technicians; would you like to have a high visibility role on a global front working for a Fortune 500 company?  How about being involved in cutting edge research and development of new and innovative products that will improve quality-of-life for millions of people around the globe?  If your passion is for new product development, we have just the job for you as an Associate Designer.  With a focus on new product development, this role interfaces with numerous functions of the business, including R&D, quality, and operations.  Designers on our team play a significant role in bringing new products to market that will delight our customers around the globe.  More importantly, they have the opportunity to apply their abilities to improve the practice of medicine by supporting the development of innovative and enabling designs.  Whether developing solid models, detailing prints, brainstorming new concepts, or working with our model and test groups to evaluate the latest prototypes, Designers are focused on ensuring that we deliver the products that support our corporate mission:  Together with our customers, we are driven to make healthcare better.

For this position, we are looking for a Designer with 0 to 2 years of experience in medical device product development.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with some of the top technical professionals in the medical device industry, bringing cutting-edge technologies to market.  Specifically, this role is with our Medical R&D Group, focusing on generating revolutionary technologies that we believe will significantly impact the quality and cost of patient care.


Successful candidates will be strong relationship builders and cooperative partners with their colleagues in research, development, operations and other departments that are both internal and external to Stryker.   Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Work with Design Engineers to develop, refine, and model medical device design concepts.
  • Leverage computer aided design tools to implement and assess design approaches.
  • Exercise individual judgment and initiative in the utilization of good modeling practices and drafting standards.
  • Learn and leverage GD&T principles in creating descriptive prints.
  • Coordinate with project managers, vendors and senior managers as needed to ensure specific cost, time and/or regulatory standards are met.
  • Participate in design reviews for both intra and inter-divisional projects.
  • Create design control and other required documentation in accordance with established standard operating procedures.


  • Technical certificate or Associates degree in Computer Aided Design.  Candidates having higher levels of training are preferred.
  • 0 to 2 years of Computer Aided Design experience, preferably focused on medical device design.  Precision machine design and/or mechanical drivetrain experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Computer Aided Design tools.
  • A genuine passion for mechanisms evidenced through both personal and professional accomplishments.
  • Skills in parametric solid modelling (PTC CREO preferred) and GD&T.  Surface modeling and PTC Mechanism experience preferred.
  • Excellent English oral and written communications skills.
  • Class 2 / 3 medical device experience preferred.
