General Description:
Develops, manages and coordinates the activities of the Technical Publications team in writing, editing, and maintaining technical documentation and marketing material.
Essential Functions:
- Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures operations’ effective achievement of objectives.
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
- Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers within the company. Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.
- Will determine specific processes and development schedules to meet pre-determined goals and objectives.
- Produces and maintains product documentation including but not limited to design specifications, marketing/sales materials, user manuals/guides, training materials, proposals, reports, and on-line help.
- Writes or provides editing assistance for application bulletins, BETA program material, and other technical, customer support, and marketing products.
- Ensures timely completion of quality documentation for all products.
- Provides writing, editing, and electronic publishing services to product teams/departments.
- Analyzes products to determine user information needs.
- Coordinates documentation and on-line help requirements with project, engineering, and test managers.
- Researches, writes, edits, compiles, revises, and reviews end-user documentation, both print and on-line.
- Creates effective graphics, flow charts, and diagrams for inclusion in documentation.
- Edits and proofreads technical materials using standard editing marks.
- Analyzes, selects, and implements documentation products and initiatives to improve quality, reduce customer service costs, and decrease customer support calls.
- Analyzes, develops, and implements departmental processes and recommends improvements.
- Assists in development of corporation-wide procedures and implementation of global systems.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions.
- Interacts and collaborates effectively with internal and external team members to assure needs of the company are met.
- Assists in project planning; provides reports and updates as required.
- Manages directly and/or through subordinate supervisors the activities of one or more business units.
- Sets overall unit goals and priorities and evaluates subordinate's performance based on those goals and priorities.
- Coaches and develops Technical Publications personnel.
- Is responsible for compliance with company policies and corrective action for personnel at one or more business units.
- Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in related field or equivalent, 10 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient on MS Office tools, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, MacroMedia Freehand, Microsoft Visio, Arbotext, PrisymId.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and clearly in writing.
