Senior Director

Responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of activities related to the new products and technology development areas, as well as for the improvement of existing products and technologies. Provides technical reports and advice to top management, planning and engineering personnel.

This is a leadership position that significantly impacts the strategy of a function within a business unit. The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories and practices relevant to a fast moving discipline. The job has full management responsibility including the management of numerous teams of managers/professionals, planning for the teams' future needs and operations. There will be financial accountability for independent budgets. This job typically requires a degree or equivalent and a minimum of 10 or more years experience.

Job brief:

  • Lead Additive Design team (‘Design for Additive’)
  • Engage a revolving-door intent with Divisional teams, to Lead, train & develop team of design engineers (‘Design for Additive’).
  • Develop competency framework for enterprise-wide Design Engineers for state-of-the-art Additive technology.
  • Proliferation of competency on ‘Design for Additive’ across all Divisions.
  • Proliferation of design engineering competency into additive process engineers.
  • Provide Design-sprint, prototyping, techno-economic modelling services to Divisions.
  • Partner with ‘Division key-account-mgrs’ to meet Divisional needs and prioritise accordingly.  
  • Creation of additive enabled concepts to meet new market opportunities Responsibility for voice-of-the-customer from across the organisation.
  • Assimilate ‘market-pull’ and ‘technology-push’ inputs for strategic planning process.
  • Process owner for prioritised roadmap of Business Unit support to maximise return for SYK.
  • Process owner for B.U. strategic planning with enterprise-wide intent.
  • Partner in ‘Market-pull’ scouting of AM technologies, ideas, concepts
  • Partner with Technology Solutions to prioritise technology development to meet commercial needs.
  • Partner with NPI to prioritise NPI projects to meet commercial needs.
  • Manage messaging and impact of prioritisation decisions to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Key account and commercial manager for External Strategic Partners.
  • M&A point-of-contact for Additive.
