The Senior Manager, Business Enablement will establish a project management office (PMO) for Stryker Canada and provide overall leadership on project and process improvement methodologies to drive business growth and support the development of a continuous improvement culture.  This role will focus on engaging closely with the business and its senior leaders to understand the current situation, analyze root causes of performance gaps, define and prioritize improvement opportunities, and influence the execution of business transformation and improvement initiatives.   These projects will be primarily strategic, cross-organizational initiatives to integrate businesses, implement new technologies, and automate and simplify significant business operations.

This individual must serve as a contributing member of the Finance Leadership Team while championing Stryker’s Mission and Values.

Responsibilities

Leadership/People Development:

  • Develop trusted relationships with the Canadian leadership team and other key stakeholders.
  • Champion the PMO program throughout the organization; coach, mentor, train and motivate employees as required.
  • Provide leadership to ensure participation and buy-in from key stakeholders to successfully implement PMO initiatives.
  • Ability to influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Oversee Lean training and development plans to increase lean certification depth in the organization. Mentor and coach Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Yellow Belt candidates with their projects, while aiding with the elimination of barriers, developing future leaders, and ensuring success of both candidate and project.
  • Assess cross-functional team capability to determine project leaders for smaller projects or Kaizen’s to build project management strength within the organization.
  • Responsible for compliance with company policies and corrective actions.
  • Proactively collaborate with internal teams/departments to promote a culture of inclusiveness and cooperation.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Develop the PMO strategy and lead the design and implementation of a common project management methodology, standards and tools to drive and facilitate the successful delivery of projects. 
  • Develop a Project Management System including governance, procedures, metrics and reporting to provide a holistic view of all project activity.
  • Champion project management achievement and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Establish and communicate to the executive stakeholders a PMO project plan including scope, prioritization, resource requirements, milestones, and timing without incurring unnecessary cost or delay to the project.
  • Support effective decision-making and manage the smooth and integrated delivery of projects. Ensure that key stakeholders are engaged in business improvement activities, including implementation and adoption.
  • Develop a metric-based performance dashboard that measures the effectiveness of the PMO system and provides visibility to the organization.
  • Identify and manage risks and issues to ensure that critical problems are escalated at the earliest opportunity and mitigating actions are implemented, in line with change control processes.
  • Identify, secure and manage project resources to achieve project and organizational objectives in line with the project plan, approved funding and within expected quality and timescales.
  • Identify, develop, and implement process improvement and standardization projects resulting in cost and quality improvement and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare business cases as required and present project charters to senior leadership.
  • Constantly seek and share best practices across the organization; seek out additional process improvement opportunities by leveraging best practices and information from other departments and teams.
  • Manage the master data function due to its critical path for integrations and expand function to include management of lean projects and PMO dashboards.

  • Expertise in conflict management and resolution
  • Ability to anticipate impact and proactively take initiative beyond direct responsibility
  • Advanced Lean Six Sigma principles including Value Stream Mapping, 5S, DMAIC approach, A3, Kazien
  • Proficiency with related software tools including but not limited to Microsoft Project Manager, Excel etc.

Education & Qualifications

  • University Degree required – operations focus preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • PMO experience required
  • Lean Certifcation required from an accredited program.
  • 15+ years experience in project management and lean six sigma methodologies
  • Previous experience establishing a PMO in a complex business environment
  • 10+ years of leadership experience required
  • Related experience in the medical field is an asset
  • Internal applicants with an equivalent combination of education, experience and performance over time at Stryker will be considered
