Job Description

Assists in the timely development and completion of developing, writing, editing, and maintaining technical information. Oversees and provides recommendations for the development of formats and guidelines for documentation.  Ensures effective planning and management of timelines for all aspects of technical documents. 

This is an individual contributor role that requires the use of judgement in applying professional expertise and is expected to work independently with minimal supervision. Job requires an understanding and application of procedures and concepts of own discipline. The job requires the ability to make judgement based on practice and previous experience.

  • Writes, edits, and revises operations, maintenance, and parts manuals, training binders, instructions sheets, and quick start guides
  • Creates clear, task-oriented technical information that meets user needs
  • Understands the new product development cycle and product manual sustainment process
  • Develops working relationship with Technical Support and R&D Project Managers
  • Attends new product development meetings
  • Leads manual review meetings throughout product development
  • Reviews previously communicated materials that may require revisions in order to meet the changing product specifications
  • Reviews all change orders for updates in a timely manner
  • Keeps all records, as appropriate and in accordance with Stryker specifications   
  • Utilizes proper software and technological tools to maintain proper records
  • Develops and maintains compliance with all regulatory and compliance activities within the team to include, but not limited to: Federal Drug Administration, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO standards, safety and OSHA regulations, affirmative action guidelines, and equal employment practices
  • Performs additional duties and projects as assigned on time and on budget

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, technical writing, journalism, or a related discipline
  • Two to four (2-4) years of experience within the technical writing field or related field
  • Experience in designing and evaluating information, using markup languages, such as XML (DITA) and creating topic-based information
  • Proficient in PTC Arbortext Editor/PTC Styler, PTC Windchill, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop preferred
  • Proficient on MS Office tools
  • Membership in technical publications professional society desired
  • Working knowledge of FDA and ISO requirements
  • Basic skills - Interpersonal skills, time management, office equipment, team leadership/member, blueprint reading, product knowledge, stress management, Windows, documentation, communication protocol and telephone skills
  • Functional skills – Must exhibit strong written communication skills including ability to write with user friendly terminology and specific details. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Stryker specific skills - Requires ability to follow and adhere to quality standards, product specifications and all safety standards
  • Ability to follow logical, step by step procedures to meet job requirements
  • Responsible for assisting and adhering to the departmental budget
  • Expected to refer complex or difficult situations to manager or other areas as appropriate
