As a Staff R&D Electrical Engineer for Stryker’s Sustainability Solutions, you will be a key member of the new product development team solving some of the most difficult challenges that will impact every product line. What you will do: 

As the R&D Staff Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for focused investigative research and new technology/platform development in the electrical engineering field that advances the division’s capabilities and supports the long-term growth strategy. You will also provide technical skills, leadership, innovative thinking, and customer focus, while engaging with other divisions and third parties to deliver new technologies and platforms and advance the development of device software and firmware.

  • You will effectively interact within a team environment and with other departments such as Quality, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Mfg. Engineering, Customer Service, Marketing, Sales, as well as external customers and suppliers.
  • You will approach highly complex problems with an inquisitive nature—embrace multifaceted inputs to develop comprehensive & creative solutions
  • You will provide guidance and understanding to navigate complex product certifications and industry regulations to include CE, UL, IEC60601, and ISO13485.
  • You will provide inputs for electrical designs, develops test strategies for Electrical and/or Software systems, and improves processes as they apply to electrical systems.
  • You will provides guidance to Risk Management Teams during the creation of risk management files. Drives identification of electrical safety hazards and Causes as discussed in the relevant product safety standards.
  • You will plan and direct new product development, perform both processes and product development activities, lead design team activity to modify plans as appropriate if problems arise, and improve/support existing processes.
  • You will lead the development of technical protocols and reports to support technology readiness confidence levels and other project milestones.
  • You will design, build, test, and troubleshoot experimental equipment, instrumentation or systems of moderate to complex scope
  • You will provide leadership and mentorship for other engineers.
  • You will provides leadership in business updates/presentations to management and stakeholders.
  • You will potentially have supervisory responsibilities of interns or R&D technicians for new technology/platform execution.

What you need:

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience required, medical device industry preferred
  • Familiarity with design of microprocessor, micro-controller, DSP, and FPGA products for medical device applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of interfaces including PCI, PCIe, USB, I2C, SPI, RS-232, RS-488, Ethernet, LVDS, and TMDS
  • Experience using electronic hardware lab tools for development of design (e.g. Oscilloscope, Electronic Loads, Function Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Environmental Chambers)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, simulate and resolve issues in embedded system designs.
  • Demonstrated competence in product development processes and its application to electrical hardware design.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as VBA, Python, Matlab and Labview
  • Advanced knowledge of FDA requirements associated with the development of medical devices including Design Control and the technical support required for regulatory submissions.
  • Advanced understanding of statistical analysis principles as they relate to data analysis and testing reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to plan/prioritize activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present issues, plans and objectives.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced organization, meeting multiple deadlines and succeeding under pressure is a must.
  • Motivated, resourceful, ambitious, enthusiastic and attentive to detail.
