What you will do

In this role, you will independently determine and develop approaches to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity as it relates to mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.
You will uses latest engineering techniques and innovative technology to reduce product time to market whilst adhering to regulatory requirements, project deadlines and product costs.

  • Provide engineering support for new product and process introductions, ensuring that all activities are completed and documented in accordance with the Stryker new product development procedures.
  • Ensure quality of process and product as defined in the appropriate operation and material specifications.
  • Will select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications, reliability and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with quality engineers to develop component specific testing and inspection protocols.
  • May lead/support capital acquisition activity from specifying equipment, contract negotiation, installation and validation.
  • Will analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental test and result analysis. Lead and/or participate in prototype builds and process design review meetings.  Additionally, compose process design review reports, identifying DFx opportunities and executing on actionable updates to either the design or process.
  • Compose Manufacturing Assembly Procedures (MAPs), PFMEAs, Production Control Plans (PCPs), and Master Validation Plans, among other documentation. Compose Production Part Approval Plans (PPAPs) and/or support both quality engineers and suppliers through closure of production approval activities.
  • Complete process capability studies for in process inspection and either generate or support quality engineers in the creation of inspection documentation.   
  • Conduct MSA studies, as necessary, for new products and new processes.
  • Provide training for manufacturing team members.
  • Ensure adherence to GMP and safety procedures.
  • Review and approval of validation documentation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What you need

  • B.S in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline with up to 5 years of experience.

What we would really like you to have

  • Experience in medical device, an FDA regulated or ISO regulated industry preferred.
  • Proven track record of working in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills - able to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Be open minded with the ability to recognize good ideas.
  • Innovative thinker - should be able to envisage new and better ways of doing things.
  • Experience in executing complex problem-solving techniques related to manufacturing/design technical issues. Good instincts and sound judgement for mechanical and structural design. Electro-mechanical design experience preferred.
  • Good understanding of Design for X (DFx), related statistical tools and validation/verification techniques. Working knowledge of Minitab statistical software preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organize and implement concurrent tasks.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes (machining, welding, bonding, soldering, etc.) materials, and process design.
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and have the ability to understand geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • High level of PC Skills required.
  • CAD modeling skills of an intermediate level using Solidworks or an equivalent software application preferred.
