Job Description

Who We Want:

Stryker's Sports Medicine business delivers a wide range of innovative sports medicine implants, instrumentation, resection, biologic and software-based image processing solutions. Our solutions focus on minimally invasive and open approaches to the shoulder, knee, hip and small joints.  This position supports testing on new products to market for our Sports Medicine business and ensures that clinical needs and quality are met for our customers.  Sr. Test Engineers work closely with R&D and other Test Engineers to experiment with early prototypes and vet out product designs throughout the design process.  What this really means is that we get to be Mythbusters.  You think your design can last the entire expected service life?  We put it to the test.  Just like the show, we quickly design and build fixtures to simulate real life situations.  In addition to these experiments, we are ultimately responsible for design verification – the quantitative testing of the technical specifications of the product.  We are a close-knit team with a variety of experience and technical specialties.  If you’re the type of person that has the magic ability to break things – we want you!

What You'll Do:

  • Coordinates testing of new products/components/designs and/or design changes to existing products.  Accountable for the testing on an entire product from experimentation to design verification.
  • Creates overall product test plans, as well as delegation of responsibilities within a test team.
  • Writes and/or reviews test protocols that document and qualify verification test methods.  Innovates testing methods and in-house capabilities.
  • Designs and documents repeatable test methods of moderate complexity (conditions to replicate are multi-factored and fixture mechanisms perform multiple functions).  Considers long-term usability of their test method and fixtures (compatibility with product iterations and reliability).  Develops tests using latest technology that are more accurate, time-efficient, comprehensive, and cost-effective than previous tests.
  • Performs testing as needed.  Coordinates with technicians, supervisors, managers, engineers, scientists, and outside test houses to ensure timely and high quality test execution.
  • Writes and/or reviews test reports that document test results and draws conclusions from test data.
  • Performs and teaches others about statistical data analysis to identify areas of variability, determine sample size, and otherwise analyze test data.
  • Continually seeks to improve current procedures, expand capabilities, and develop themselves and those around them.
  • Maintains a strong relationship with the cross-functional product development team to drive high quality products that are launched in an efficient manner.
  • Complies with internal and external regulations and quality policies at all times; ensuring a safe, positive work environment.

What You Need:

  • 2-5 years of test engineering experience, or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Master’s degree (M.S.) preferred
  • Medical device experience preferred
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
