Job Description

This position will offer dedicated legal support in the area of intellectual property (IP) to Stryker’s European Regional Headquarters (Stryker European Operations, Ltd. (“SEOL”)) in Cork, Ireland and manufacturing sites throughout Europe.  This role will collaborate with various European stakeholders and with the U.S. product divisions to establish and implement Stryker’s European IP policy. This role will also assist the European IP team provide day-to-day IP legal advice. This position will report to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a legal advisor to Stryker’s European leadership
  • Collaborate with Stryker’s IP team and other stakeholders to develop and implement IP strategy in Europe;
  • Work closely with R&D centers and divisional IP managers on innovation harvesting and IP protection;
  • Support R&D centers across Europe on development agreements and other projects;
  • Collaborate with the IP management teams at the various divisions to ensure the SEOL’s intellectual property is effectively managed, including conducting quarterly performance reviews regarding IP portfolio management;
  • Act as a Liaison between the IP management teams at the various divisions and the SEOL leadership;
  • Provide SEOL leadership updates on intellectual property portfolios, key performance metrics, projects and performance against budget;
  • Develop and conduct IP Training at SEOL and various European non-manufacturing facilities where training is not routinely performed;
  • Provide IP advice to Stryker's European manufacturing sites;
  • Develop strategy regarding enforcement / protection of SEOL’s IP

Experience:

  • 10+ years of business experience as in-house legal counsel in the life sciences industry, or as attorney advising clients in this industry
  • Experience with developing, managing, protecting and enforcing patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights throughout Europe
  • International experience or experience working with clients in different jurisdictions and cultures ideally within a medical devices, pharmaceutical, consumer electronics or automotive industry environment

Qualifications:

  • Law degree or qualified/chartered patent attorney in at least one of the following jurisdictions: Ireland (preferred), UK, Germany, France, Netherlands
  • Experience with EPO and OHIM proceedings, intellectual property strategy, intellectual property enforcement, and licensing
  • Fluency in Business English is essential, German or French, would be desirable.
