What you will do:

As a new product development (NPD) senior engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of surgical instrument cases/trays that are critical to the implant and instrument launches. Co-developing with strategic suppliers, you will bring to market the cases/trays that are used to organize, transport, store and facilitate sterilization of reusable surgical instruments.

You will specify precise critical product functional requirements, collaborate closely with the supplier on the design, test and evaluate the case/tray design overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety. You will utilize CAD (Computer Aided Design) systems to produce engineering drawings using supplier provided drawings. You will also evaluate fit-for-use testing, conduct mechanical verification and user validation activities, author protocols and reports, build a design history file and be responsible for a timely product launch.

You will have the opportunity to work with team members here in the U.S. and in India. We are truly global!  Additionally, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Marketing, Sterility Sciences, Implant/Instrument Product Development, Engineering Standards, Advanced Operations, Regulatory, Design Assurance, Program Management, Sourcing, and Device Evaluation to develop robust solutions.

You will have an opportunity to visit with and gather user needs from our end customers: the hospital staff and surgeons.  We also encourage and support collaboration with other Stryker divisions who provide case/trays!

What you need:

  • A bachelors a degree in Engineering or related field
  • 2 or more years’ experience.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent ability to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative thinker that can envision new and better ways of doing things
  • Excellent analytical thinker with an ability to plan, organize and implement concurrent tasks
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, product and process design
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to collect user needs and translate into design inputs
  • Sense of urgency and commitment to timelines
  • Ability to recognize risks in the development process and develop contingency plans
  • Experience in an FDA regulated or similar regulated industry a plus

Other things to consider

We care about your safety. Regulations require that loaded instrument tray systems can’t weigh more than 25 pounds. As such, you will be required to lift, lower and move up to a 25-pound tray as needed. But no worries, this is not a daily event!

You will get to learn and contribute to the backstage process of the surgery cycle, the reprocessing stage. This process is getting a lot of attention now due to the explosive growth of performing total joint replacement in the ambulatory surgical centers (ASC) setting!
