Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility: launch and develop Mako accounts and local MPS team in China (80%)
  • Work with local teams to ensure the highest standard of Mako delivery in accounts
  • Mentor develop and grow the clinical skills of Mako team in the assigned country
  • Train physicians and hospital personnel, including Theatre staff, radiology and central sterile processing on the use of the Mako System, accessories, disposables and implants per the Mako released surgical techniques and guides
  • Provide surgeons and Theatre staff with training and Clinical/Technical support in the operation of the MAKO robotic arm, its SW applications, associated equipment, and instruments to ensure delivery of best clinical outcomes.
  • Use proprietary software to prepare pre-operative CT scans for use in conjunction with the company's Robotic Arm, assists the surgeon in preoperative robotic procedure surgical planning.
  • Support local MPS in solving product problems at local accounts in an expeditious manner.
  • Serve as a backup to support case coverage in the region.
  • Support the development and execution of the sales plan as well as grow the utilization of the Mako system by customer training and education with an objective to increase procedure volume with current and potential surgeons.
  • Actively sell the clinical benefits of the products, and build strong, positive relationships with key surgeons and Theatre staff at Stryker Asia and China accounts.
  • Mentor and certify new local MPS’s and SMPS by delivering on job training and guidance following the company’s policies.
  • Support MAKO Clinical Education and Training for Stryker Asia. Responsibilities may include MPS training, Surgeons and hospital staff and other Stryker colleagues.
  • Support development preparation and delivery of MAKO cadaveric courses and surgeon certifications
  • Support activities related to the development of Chinese and regional MAKO KOL’s and clinical experts
  • Communication and coordination with MAKO US MPS leadership team, to deliver current and accurate training programs.
  • Support China and regional sales and marketing efforts through the delivery of road-show product demonstrations and participation in local and regional marketing and clinical conferences. Provide potential customers with the opportunity to experience a product in use and explain its clinical value
  • Mentor and sign off solos for new MPS in the region
  • Relocation to China may be considered following 18-24 months of service

Special Training Requirements:

  • Must pass Mako course examinations and obtain a certification with related applications (PKA, THA, TKA)
  • Maintain current credentials as required by Mako clinical training department


  • Must speak Chinese (Mandarin) and English fluently.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a sales, marketing and/or technical environment with a proven track record (medical, pharmaceutical or healthcare industry) or 3 years of experience as a successful Mako Product Specialist
  • Highly experienced in clinical and surgical support, comfortable in operating room environment and guidance of surgeons and clinical staff
  • Possess an excellent level of Stryker JR product knowledge and proficiency while working under minimal supervision on complex projects.
  • Wide latitude for independent judgment and management of workload with excellent time management.
  • Demonstrates the ability to train and mentor others (Internal employees and customers)
  • Demonstrates leadership skills with internal and external team members and customers
  • Passionate about the delivery of customer service at the highest level
  • Knowledgeable with business administrative and clerical procedures and systems (e.g. word processing, file management, and record maintenance)
  • Demonstrates problem solving and ability to work independently and in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrates command, and willing to take control
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze and comprehend written specifications and to assist customers with product selections that will comply with those specifications
  • Demonstrates ability to apply office technology (e.g. Microsoft Access, Excel and Word)
  • A minimum of 1-year experience as a senior Mako Product Specialist is an advantage
  • Able to travel extensively in China and Asia (>50%)
