Overview

Our Stryker plastics engineering intern/ co-op position will perform projects to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and maintain high quality for the extruded micro tubing area.  There will be a focus on reviewing and improving technician practices as they relate to running the newly transferred extrusion and expansion lines.  This position will work side by side with Extrusion Core Team Engineers to support both manufacturing and R&D runs on the extrusion and expansion lines.  They will be asked to assist the team in root causing problems, proposing solutions, and executing solutions.

Tasks may include fixture and tooling design, evaluating improved tooling and solutions to be procured from outside vendors.  This role will collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.

Job Duties: 

  • Conducts equipment assembly and operations support activities including, product and process support, troubleshooting and resolving problems. This role responds to the demands of the production lines including needs for increased equipment support as customer demands may require.
  • Demonstrating a primary commitment to patient safety, product quality and compliance with the Stryker,
  • Quality Manual and its governing regulations.
  • Electromechanical assembly of equipment, tooling, and fixturing.
  • Conduct qualification, verification, and validation activities as required.
  • Conduct moderately complex troubleshooting and resolution of routine problems.
  • Conduct moderately complex repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment, machinery, and fixturing.
  • Conduct activities, tasks, and documentation per quality system requirements.
  • Maintain documentation as required. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, health conscious work area.        .                         
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be in Sophomore or Junior year in in a technical major in college
  • Proficiency in Solidworks (or equivalent) CAD software, Minitab (or equivalent) statistical software is preferred.
  • Ability to respond to the dynamic equipment needs of the production line as required.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe work practices with electromechanical equipment.
    Ability to analyze machinery failures and implement appropriate resolutions.
    Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.        
    Ability to work independent of routine supervision.
    Ability to interpret and implement non-complicated instructions, both verbal and written.
    Ability to conduct basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Strong Computer skillset
  • Good interpersonal skills

*Internship includes relocation and housing for 12 weeks. Does not include food allowance.
