We are currently seeking a Manager, Continuous Improvement to join Stryker’s Medical Division in Portage, Michigan.

The Manager, Continuous Improvement will be responsible for running the continuous improvement program for Stryker’s Medical Division which manufacturers medical bed frames and chairs using innovative technology and evidence-based design with patient safety in mind.

What you will do:

As the Manager, Continuous Improvement you will develop, implement and drive continuous improvement process for the Global Quality Operations Team. The focus of the position is for continuous improvement of our Stryker facility and manufacturing operations.

  • Provide leadership and process guidance to the Operations team members.
  • Will assist and coach customers in resolving product issues.
  • Will provide reports on areas of responsibility.
  • May manages directly and/or indirectly the activities of manufacturing support staff, engineers, and technicians.
  • Acts as point of contact for management team on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and manage visual daily management system.
  • Support continuous improvement of facility and labor standards.
  • Coach employees establish clear priorities and building productive working relationships.
  • Plans, organizes, and develops goals for the engineering resources to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/6S methodologies and tools with cross functional teams from inception through implementation of recommendations and solutions.
  • Change systems/processes as required in support of the Lean initiatives.
  • Participate in gemba walks and coach employees on continuous improvement, standard work development/modification/adherence, flow, takt time attainment, and problem-solving abnormalities causing issues.
  • Create and provide training specific to Lean Transformation tools and methodology.
  • May lead and/or support Capital Plan and development.
  • Conduct/facilitate value stream analyses at plant and unit levels.
  • Provide communication on the direction of Lean Transformation and daily management initiatives to employees to include; coaching of employees and leaders to drive lean behaviors.
  • Assist all teams as needed to ensure plant improvements are made and sustained.
  • Implement change management methods to drive the lean culture transformation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in evolving operational and process excellence (Lean, Six Sigma, Design Excellence) concepts and tools.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in process engineering or industrial engineering highly preferred.
  • 8+ years relevant work experience required.
  • Lean Manufacturing work experience required.
  • 3+ years manufacturing project management experience highly preferred.
  • 1+ years people management experience highly preferred.

Additionally, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/facilitate cross-functional problem-solving teams.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and/or electrical problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, industry, and technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/facilitate problem solving teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop detailed process plans using applicable tools (PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Safety and Efficacy reviews).
  • Demonstrated ability to implement qualified processes using applicable systems (Process Validation, Process Planning Tools, Design of experiments, Manufacturing Assembly Procedures).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Design for Manufacturability concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, track and facilitate projects using applicable tools (Gantt and Pert Charts etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to justify, procure and implement major capital equipment programs.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and facilitating training initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) required.
  • Experience in statistical applications (Minitab or equivalent) preferred.
