Summary:

The Sr. Architect will be responsible for developing architectural designs for integrated systems within and across Shared Service Platforms. In this role the Sr. Architect will partner with Business Analysts and Technical Analysts to understand the overall business need, define overarching requirements and create high-level architectural specifications, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and integration with existing systems/platforms and develop an overarching architectural design and model that will support Stryker’s business needs. The senior architect will also play a significant role within the Architecture Review Board in not only defining application standards, but also driving the final decision on solution. The incumbent will additionally lead solution development and implementation for new systems and enhancements and participate in defining technical standards for the specialty area.

Essential duties & responsibilies

  • Responsible for the overall systems architecture and design in the larger context of complex heterogeneous systems. 
  • Experienced on multiple technological platforms.
  • Responsible for choosing the right technology platform for implementing an architected solution.
  • Hands-on experience across several disciplines.
  • Serves as domain expert in all aspects of architecting, designing and application development.
  • Formulates deployment strategies to ensure reliability and scalability for Stryker systems.
  • Assesses technological risks that could jeopardize the growth and/or operations of the organization; makes recommendations on applications retirement.
  • Leads and directs the work of other architects.
  • Investigates new technology solutions, builds prototypes.
  • Provides consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top-level contributor/specialist.
  • Business and financial acumen - great knowledge and understanding of basic business and data flow is required.
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the systems development concepts, practices, and procedures. 
  • Writes specifications, develops architectural concepts and artifacts.
  • Mentors and develops architects and technical leads.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university required bachelor’s degree in the areas of Computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent field of study preferred.
  • Advanced degree preferred

Qualifications & experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience
  • Experience in leading resources in projects
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of the SAP & ERP architecture and major SAP modules (configuration, processes, integration including SAP add-on products) as well as the current/future SAP product portfolio strategy (including visions)
  • Extensive knowledge of medical devices and/or pharmaceutical industry and basic knowledge of adjacent areas in terms of processes, organization, products and IS requirements
  • Experience working with executive business stakeholders is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix organization structure with significant emphasis on collaboration and persuasion, rather than relying entirely on command and control.
  • Experience with process mapping is required.
  • Experience documenting complex processes and presenting them in a clear and understandable format is required.
  • Experience understanding, evaluating, and recommending changes to business processes are required.
  • Experience working in an agency-regulated environment is required.
  • Expertise of Agile Development methodologies is required.
  • Expertise of Project methodologies is required
  • Experience developing strategic business process methodologies to drive collaboration and business results
  • Demonstrated understanding of business-wide needs and processes and ability to work strategically with multiple facets of a global business.

  • Demonstrated strong communication and influencing skills – oral, written, listening, executive presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with business representatives at all levels to identify needs, define and document requirements, and drive solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to guide the business towards optimal solutions
  • Experience in identifying opportunities for process optimization, process redesign, or development of new process/policies
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain clear communication channels with IS and business stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Demonstrated ability to convert complex business functions into technical specifications
