Job Description

The Legal Counsel, GQO -- to be based in Leesburg, VA -- will work closely with Stryker’s Global Quality and Operations (GQO) team and Stryker’s Spine division as an advisor and subject matter expert related to manufacturing, sourcing, and supply chain operations. This attorney will be a key member of Stryker's Global Legal and Compliance team, and will:

  • Serve as strategic business partner and advisor to divisional and GQO functional leadership and the GQO integration team in connection with a newly-acquired business.
  • Effectively communicate with leadership at all levels of the organization, bringing in feedback and gaining alignment from a range of functions. 
  • Draft, edit, negotiate, and proactively handle complex transactional matters through to resolution related to all areas of direct procurement and operations, including master service and supply agreements, change control agreements, statements of work, NDAs, and contract amendments.
  • Oversee contract management and provide guidance to contract managers at local manufacturing sites.
  • Design and develop processes and procedures necessary to successfully integrate the newly-acquired business.
  • Supervise and strategize with outside counsel. 
  • Ensure alignment of processes with the overall GQO and Spine division strategies.
  • Provide timely advice to stakeholders, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Provide support related to the development and delivery of in-house training and education.
  • Ability to convey complex legal principles clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and management across multiple functions and business units.
  • Assist on other matters as needed.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Law degree and admission to practice law.
  • Minimum 7 years applicable professional experience; prior professional experience considered.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and professional demeanor, and a sound ethical compass.
  • Supports change in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team and possesses discipline to proactively follow-up on matters.
  • Possesses analytical and drafting skills.
  • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage and prioritize numerous projects and conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to integrity and accountability.
  • Possesses communication skills and ability to sufficiently convey basic legal concepts clearly and concisely to non-legal audiences.
  • Has the ability to allocate resources effectively.
  • Possesses at least basic organizational and good interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains confidential information.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and advanced contract and/or subject-matter management software.
