Job Overview

The Financial Analyst is responsible for coordinating with the Controller in maintaining the compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) over financial reporting and related Corporate Accounting Policies; coordinating internal and external SOX and financial statement audits; support the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst in developing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, narratives, and control walkthroughs; coordination with compliance regarding financial aspects of corporate compliance activities; and coordinate with tax consultants over tax compliance activities. This individual must serve as a key member of the finance team while championing Stryker’s Mission and Values.


Individual Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for departmental compliance with company policies and corrective actions
  • Proactively collaborates with internal teams/departments to promote a culture of inclusiveness and cooperation

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Controller to ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) over financial reporting and related Corporate Accounting Policies
  • Monitor audit procedures to ensure the internal control environment is designed and operating effectively, as well as provide recommendations for enhancements to controls, policies, and procedures to Senior Management.
  • Execute an internal audit plan for Stryker Canada in collaboration with the business
  • Coordinate SOX and financial statement audits with Corporate Internal Audit and external auditors. This includes managing internal resources and deliverables, drafting responses to represent managements position on recommendations, and ensuring follow-up activities are implemented by the agreed upon deadlines
  • Coordinate with compliance regarding financial aspects of Corporate Compliance activities
  • Serve as primary contact for all tax compliance activities, including coordination with tax consultant, the corporate tax group, CRA and provincial authorities
  • Provide support for month end functions as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or Controller

  • Report any violations of these policies and procedures to Stryker management or in the manner outlined in Stryker’s Ethics Hotline Policy

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and procedures and their application
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and manage projects to a timely conclusion
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable dealing with executive management and maintaining relationships with divisional personnel
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient knowledge of business software
  • Proven leadership & Development skills    

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an accounting role
  • CA, CPA considered an asset
  • Previous audit experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with Oracle considered an assest
  • Previous exposure to SOX compliance an asset
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Internal applicants with an equivalent combination of education, experience and performance over time at Stryker will be considered
