Job Description


Provide leadership and direction to the fast growing $800M+ Acute Care innovation team to ensure achievement of the business objectives by delivering world class products that exceed expectations of the customer, make healthcare better and lower the overall cost of healthcare.  This critical role will lead a team of talented Engineers in the area of Electrical, Software and Mechanical Engineering disciplines. 

Responsibilities and duties

  • Responsible for the selection, supervision, development and objective setting for a research and development team consisting of managers, engineers and clerical/technical staff. 
  • Works with the executive and R&D teams to achieve Stryker Medical’s mission, vision and objectives. Will contribute to business plans and strategy for products, technologies or other business opportunities 
  • Responsible for setting and achieving research and development objectives (including Kalamazoo, Canada and International venues). 
  • Regularly communicates department’s vision, quality goals and achievements to all employees as well as to senior staff on a regular basis. Communication may include, but is not limited to: business planning, business review, innovation reviews, weekly meetings, etc. 
  • Supports new business opportunities and acquisitions.   
  • Responsible for inter-departmental compliance with company policies and corrective actions. 
  • Supports the growth and development of the team as a whole by investing in employee involvement and development by fostering personal growth, being responsible and accountable, being passionate towards the success of the business and treating all with dignity and respect. 
  • Actively participate in the ongoing development of a corporate culture that strives to achieve the highest ethical standards. This is accomplished by conducting all business affairs ethically and lawfully and by ensuring open, honest communication without fear of retaliation. 


  • 8+ years demonstrated management experience leading an R&D team, preferably within the Medical Technology industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related required
