Job Description

Direct responsibility for a team of Continuous Improvement (CI) engineers and technicians. Leads Operational Excellence and more complex change initiatives across the business. Mentors and develops CI engineers and technicians. Deputizes for the BPI Manager.

  • Be responsible and accountable for the deployment of the Operations Excellence strategy to deliver the Operational objectives of the business units.
  • Develop and complete IDP’s and performance reviews with assigned engineers to provide structured development opportunities to improve performance and engagement.
  • Understand and comply with the regulations governing the Quality System.
  • Demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality
  • Create a highly talented team by sourcing, hiring, and placing individuals to positions that play to their strengths and future potential.
  • Champions a positive employee relations environment by promoting open communication, engagement and a culture of inclusiveness, trust, flexibility and teamwork. Ensures that the Q12 process is a meaningful and effective method of driving engagement.
  • Ensure effective, meaningful and timely performance appraisal with goal setting, continuous two-way dialogue and feedback
  • Works closely with site management to drive and engage the site in the use of lean and problem solving road maps/ tools as a core competency.
  • Creates awareness and promotes Continuous Improvement in project and task applications and ensures the necessary training, technical support and managerial support is in place to enable competency development.
  • Leads a team of CI experts to provide comprehensive CI programs and initiatives including but not limited to Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving, Standard Work, 6S Workplace Organisation and Lean transactional to drive improvements in the following areas; Efficiency/Productivity, space, yield, lead/cycle time and inventory.
  • Lead team to apply CI tools and methodologies across all legacy products and processes and new product introductions.
  • Networks with peer group, cross-site and CI Central team globally to capture best practices and improve local tools and systems. Lead initiatives as appropriate, influence at site level strategic direction for Process Excellence.
  • Support business units to achieve/exceed desired service levels, budgeted inventory turns, lead time reduction and efficiency improvement objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate process layout to ensure maximum utilisation of floor space, minimise handling and optimum process flow.
  • Work closely with Finance and Operations in the generation of annual Engineering Standards and be responsible for the accuracy and robustness of the process.
  • Participates in and contributes to site and global council(s) and review boards tasked with Continuous Improvement oversight.
  • Partner with Operations leads to deliver sustained operations excellence.
  • Continually develops and expands the Lean and Problem Solving toolkit and integrates into the business systems.
  • Provides training, mentoring and facilitation of CI tools and methodologies across the site.
  • Collaborate with the Process Development Department / Advanced Operations to ensure that all new products and processes are introduced into production using CI tools and methodologies, in compliance, on time, within budget and are operationally successful.
  • Develops solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.  Ensures solutions are consistent with organisation objectives.
  • Contributes to the completion of organisational projects and goals. 
  • Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement that supports Stryker’s Quality Policy, Quality System and appropriate regulations for the areas they support.  Ensure employees are trained to do their work and that their training is documented

Experience & Skills Required

  • Comprehensive understanding of the concepts and principles in their discipline.
  • An understanding of other concepts and principles in context in order to resolve issues that have an impact beyond the area.
  • People Management experience -The job has full management of a team, including management of people, defining roles and responsibilities, planning for the department's future needs and operations, counselling employees on performance and contributing to employee pay decisions or changes.
  • This job requires a third level degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 or more years experience.
