Job Description

The Associate Legal Counsel will draft and edit contracts and handle various transactional matters related to Stryker’s U.S. Flex Financial contracting (including with group purchasing organizations, integrated delivery networks, ambulatory service centers, and municipal hospitals). This attorney will:

  • Act as a legal business partner to operations and commercial personnel within Flex Financial to execute Stryker’s Flex contracting strategy;
  • Possess knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework concerning the sale and marketing of medical devices/technologies including matters related to anti-trust, fraud and abuse, anti-kickback and the discount safe harbor;
  • Possess knowledge of equipment finance laws and industry norms in order to document usage and lease agreements for Flex;
  • Be responsible for a large number of issues, prioritizing, and delivering timely results;
  • Be responsible for contributing to solutions to problems which could have a significant impact on the company;
  • Be responsible for providing legal advice related to multiple issues and making decisions related to legal matters which could have a large financial impact on the company including litigation, intellectual property, compliance with laws, investigations, contracting, government relations, sales agreements, lease agreements, company secretarial issues, tax matters, and supply or vendor relationships among others;
  • Follow and educate others on core contract management processes for execution and filing of agreements; and
  • Collaborate and communicate with colleagues, management and outside counsel on issues related to Flex transactions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5-8 years professional experience in law firm or corporate legal department setting with demonstrated experience in health care law, corporate transactions, or capital leasing or financing; Prior professional experience considered; medical device, pharmaceutical, life sciences experience strongly preferred.
  • Juris doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school.

  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. State or the District of Columbia.

  • Demonstrates excellent judgment, professional demeanor, and business acumen.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Possesses excellent analytical and drafting skills.
  • Experience providing legal advice in a highly regulated environment preferred. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to integrity and accountability.

  • Possesses good communication skills and ability to convey legal principles clearly and concisely.   
  • Has a basic understanding of business financials and reporting.     
  • Possesses good organizational skills and ability to manage numerous projects and conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment.     
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels of organization. 
  • Maintains confidential information.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn Stryker-specific systems.

Work From Home: Occasional

Travel Percentage: 30%
