We are currently seeking a Manager, Continuous Improvement to join Stryker’s Medical Division in Portage, Michigan.

The Manager, Continuous Improvement will be responsible for running the continuous improvement program for Stryker’s Medical Division which manufacturers medical bed frames and chairs using innovative technology and evidence-based design with patient safety in mind.

What you will do:

As the Manager, Continuous Improvement you will develop talent and core competencies that will support strategy execution and ingrain daily CI behaviors in our culture.  Lead plant manufacturing excellence initiatives to position manufacturing as a competitive advantage for Stryker.

  • Provide leadership and process guidance to the Operations team members.
  • Coach employees, establish clear priorities and building productive working relationships.
  • Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/6S methodologies and tools with cross functional teams from inception through implementation of recommendations and solutions.
  • Participate in Gemba walks and coach employees on continuous improvement, standard work development/modification/adherence, flow, takt time attainment, and problem solving abnormalities causing issues.
  • Conduct/facilitate value stream analyses at plant and unit levels.
  • Provide communication on the direction of Lean Transformation and daily management initiatives to employees to include; coaching of employees and leaders to drive lean behaviors.
  • Assist all teams as needed to ensure plant improvements are made and sustained.
  • Manages directly and/or indirectly the activities of manufacturing support staff, engineers, and technicians.
  • Acts as point of contact for management team on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive individual and organizationl learning
  • Execute daily improvement of self and organization
  • Drive organizational change that that enables Lean Coaching to become part of the norm
  • Ensure site and functional objectives align to GQO Manufacturing Excellence strategy
  • Track performance to commitment through standard PMO
  • Implement and track layered manufacturing performance reviews
  • Leverage standardized methods, tools and measurement systems
  • Drive the five key elements of the Production System Model to further our path to become a world-class value chain partner

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering (process engineering or industrial engineering preferred) or related field required.
  • 10+ years relevant work experience required, of which 3+ years must be in a Continuous Improvement Management role.
  • Lean Manufacturing work experience required.
  • Toyota Production Systems experience highly preferred.
  • 1+ years people management experience highly preferred.

Additionally, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/facilitate cross-functional problem solving teams.
  • Demonstrated organizational, industry, and technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/facilitate problem solving teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Design for Manufacturability concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, track and facilitate projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to justify, procure and implement major capital equipment programs.
  • Excellent organization, planning, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and facilitating training initiatives.
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all environmental and safety laws and regulations, including the Company’s environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to understand GREEN building initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) required.
  • Experience in statistical applications (Minitab or equivalent) preferred.
