Additive Design Engineer

Position Summary:

The Additive Design Engineer is a key member of the AO Additive team, focused on developing additive-enabled product designs along with divisional R&D and AO counterparts. The Design Engineer will work as an embedded member of the divisional product development teams and work hand-in-hand on design concepts that lead to new products to be launched from the AO Additive New Product Introduction team.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

- Collaborate with divisional R&D and AO to understand product requirements and use additive design methodologies to improve performance of new and existing products.

- Provide engineering support for new product and process introductions, ensuring that all activities are completed and documented in accordance with the Stryker new product development procedures.

- Ensure quality of process and product as defined in the appropriate operation and material specifications.

- Model and detail implant and instrument designs utilizing CAD software.

- Develop prototypes for design verification and validation. •

- Actively participate on, and sometimes lead, cross-functional design teams to develop new product, address design issues, and maintain existing designs. •


B.S in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with 0-2 years of experience

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong CAD software knowledge (Pro-E, Solidworks, CATIA, etc.)

Working knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) software

Passion for additive manufacturing and understanding of the potential that additive manufacturing has to revolutionize product design.

Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.

The individual should enjoy working in a fast paced, dynamic and results orientated team environment.

Excellent Interpersonal Skills - able to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Innovative thinker - should be able to envisage new and better ways of doing things.

Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organize and implement concurrent tasks.

Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, product and process design.

Must be able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and have a good understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.

Experience in medical devices preferred.

High level of PC Skills required.

Excellent attention to detail.

Potential to join divisional R&D teams depending on organizational demands.

Experience in additive is not required for this role.
